Our History

Our experience in travel management began in 1999 when data-driven analytics and strategic sourcing were in its infancy.  Star and Oneworld Alliance had just been formed although SkyTeam did not yet exist.  ITT Sheraton was a leading hotel chain.  This was well before the advent of Prism-based contracting.   In the last twenty years, the managed travel industry has transformed in many ways.  However, one key attribute is as present today as it was back then.  The need for Corporate Travel Buyers to rely upon accurate and reliable data paired with robust and actionable decision support analytics.

Data Insights was formed to fulfill this perpetually undermet need for many travel buyers.  Today, Data Insights is proud to support numerous prominent global buyers in solving their most challenging program goals – through the data reporting and insightful analytics generated by Data Insights’ solutions.

Dan Pirnat
Principal

Dan Pirnat has been a consultant in the corporate travel industry since 1999. Until 2010, Dan was a Director at Travel Analytics, subsequently becoming Vice President and General Manager of TRX Travel Analytics. Prior to embarking on his travel specialization, Dan was a consultant with the global management firm A.T. Kearney focusing on supply chain.

In 2010, Dan set out and created Data Insights with the goal of supporting an underserved segment of the corporate travel sector – delivering robust analytics and data management for corporate travel buyers. Since 2010, Data Insights has proudly served many prestigious corporations in maximizing travel savings opportunities. This includes travel category RFPs, supplier scenario testing, travel policy analysis/modification, program globalization among other initiatives. Of importance to our clients, Data Insights maintains complete objectivity by serving only travel buyers.

Dan is a proud graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University’s business program. Dan and his family of Cleveland sports enthusiasts reside on the west side of Cleveland.

Dave Whiteaker
Director, Analytics & Consulting

David Whiteaker has worked as an analyst and consultant in the travel industry for more than a decade, managing strategy and sourcing engagements for some of the world’s largest global travel buyers. His projects have ranged from highly structured strategy and sourcing initiatives to long-term ad hoc client support.

Dave leads Data Insights’ airline consulting and analytical practice. He also serves as our subject matter expert in travel policy consulting and is responsible for ongoing staff training. Dave’s most recent work has been in the pharmaceutical, consumer products and professional services industries. He also has experience working in financial services and with government entities.

He and his family reside near Cincinnati, OH.

Geoff Purdy
Director of Solutions Architecture

Geoff Purdy has over 27 years in large scale systems design and implementation. He has led many multinational projects and has subject matter expertise in the areas of product design, manufacturing, supply chain, QA, HR, and sales analysis. On the technical side Geoff has played each IT role – project manager, analyst, DBA, developer, team lead, department head.

Geoff will lead the IT function for Data Insights, with a special focus on master data governance, cloud operations, and scalability. Relying on this diverse background, Geoff will also be responsible for process development and elastic staffing in the IT realm. Having led business intelligence teams in the past, and with the expanding capabilities of data science/machine learning and visualization tools, Geoff and the Data Insights team will be developing offerings to leverage these technologies to deliver more value and help our clients solve problems.

He and his family live on the west side of Cleveland.

Aditi Mehta
Director, Consulting & Strategic Solutions

Aditi Mehta has been in travel since 1996, with two stints each at Lufthansa and Jet Airways, mainly in pricing and revenue management, and more recently as a Consultant with American Express GBT. She has guided numerous Fortune 500 clients across various industry verticals such as Life Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, Manufacturing, Insurance, Communications and Banking. Her projects have included airline sourcing, diagnostics, negotiating new airline services, ongoing optimization and related activities. She is a self-starter, goal oriented, and a natural problem-solver. Automation and finding efficiencies to ensure a positive outcome are key drivers of Aditi’s approach.

Aditi is originally from Bombay, India where she graduated with a major in Economics, and Business Analysis. She has also studied programming, worked in banking in previous roles, and is multi-lingual. She migrated to the US in 2003. She currently lives in Jersey City, New Jersey. In her personal life, Aditi is passionate about travel, good food, and likes to dabble in interior design.

Mike Ferry
Application Architect, Incompass

Mike has been architecting and implementing software solutions for over 28 years for small businesses and Fortune 500 corporations. He is directly involved with the creation and continuing development of many commercial applications, including www.netGolfLeague.com, www.iSirc.com, and www.incompassData.com. Mike is an innovator who makes it a priority to stay well-informed about the latest technologies, which enables him to apply the right technology to each project.

Mike joined the Data Insights team to lead in the development of Incompass. Drawing on his experience with building secure, performant, cloud-based systems, he was instrumental in driving the technologies and architecture used for Incompass. Mike is responsible for designing and building the Incompass user interface, securing the website and data, and ensuring overall system scalability. Mike believes machine learning will have a significant impact on the industry moving forward and is excited about the big data possibilities at Data Insights.

Mike enjoys biking, skiing and hanging out with his family and resides near Akron, OH.

Chris Slagle
Project Engagement Director

Chris Slagle brings over 30 years of travel industry experience to the Data Insights team. The more recent years of Chris’ career has been working in the travel consultancy divisions of the top 2 TMCs. Most recently at Amex GBT and prior to that – over 13 years at the CWT Solutions Group. While in his role for both TMCs Chris was not only involved in designing the right projects for hundreds of clients, but he also played a significant role in the creation of new offerings and innovations.

Chris’ knowledge of the rapidly changing dynamics within corporate travel management makes him an asset to Data Insights and our clients. At Data Insights, Chris enjoys working with clients to act in their best interests and helping them meet their goals.

Chris began his career with America West Airlines. From there he held positions at Boeing, seeUthere.com, and Travel Analytics.

Chris has 3 ‘grown-kids’ who have graduated college and are ‘off the payroll.’ His wife is a High School French & Spanish teacher. They live with their 2 dogs in Scottsdale, AZ

Karin Manton
Client Engagement Manager

Karin Manton is a supply chain professional with over 12 years of direct and indirect strategic sourcing, as well as, product and client management experience. The industries she has worked across include: travel, telecommunications, food, financial services and aviation. Her career in procurement began on the corporate buyer side working for large scale organizations such as Motorola, Kraft Foods and The Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Upon relocating to the Texas area, she transitioned into the aviation industry and moved into direct client management and consulting where she worked on-site with multiple clients leading large scale RFP engagements, giving presentations to senior level executives, and implementing eProcurement sourcing applications.

As the Client Engagement Manager for Data Insights, Karin is responsible for overseeing client engagement communications, project schedules and serving as a direct contact for our client partners. In addition to this role she serves as a resource for Data Insights sales efforts in the northeast territory. She holds a dual BS in Supply Chain Management and Production Operations Management from Bowling Green State University and currently resides in Wilton, CT with her husband and two children.
